Asian Woolly-necked Stork

I am so happy to have these photographs of this ‘near threatened’ species. Widespread from India to Indonesia, these birds are mostly seen in agricultural areas and in wetlands. They are attracted to grassland and crop-field fires where they collect to capture insects trying to escape the fire!

Scientific Name: Ciconia episcopus
Conservation Status: Near Threatened

Date photographed: 2014, 2018 and 2025
Location: Ranthambore National Park, Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve & Kaziranga National Park - INDIA
