Asian barred owlet

Driving back, after a morning of walking and photography in the Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, we chanced upon this Asian barred owlet, one of the larger species of pygmy owls. Then again for the second time at the Kaziranga National Park. They are mainly diurnal and hunt throughout the day. However being active during the day, makes them prone to be mobbed by smaller birds. Infact often they can be spotted by looking for the presence of mobbing songbirds.

Scientific Name: Glaucidium cuculoides
Conservation Status: least concern

Date photographed: February 2023
Location: Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park - INDIA
