Asian Koel
The Asian Koel, the local cuckoo in India. It's song the song of Spring, mango trees coming into bloom. The song-track of the true Indian summer (not an autumn known as such). Its a bird that is also, like most Cuckoos, more heard than seen and a brood-parasite (the female Koel lays her eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise the Koel’s young)
The male Koel is a glossy bluish-black, with a pale greenish grey bill, crimson iris and grey legs and feet. The female Koel is brownish on the crown and has rufous streaks on the head. Her back, rump and wing coverts are dark brown with white and buff spots. Her underparts are striped.
