Baillon's crake

This tiny crake that breeds in wet sedge marshes and bogs has truly world wide credentials. Found in Eurasia, wintering in Africa and South Asia with resident colonies in Africa and Australasia. There is even a single North American record of this species on Attu Island in September 2000.
I found it foraging quietly on the edge of a roadside pond outside Melbourne. 😊
